|BAGHDAD, July 10 (VOI) - Parliament's session held today was adjourned until Tuesday without voting on the provincial councils elections draft law, a lawmaker from the Iraqi Accordance Front (IAF) said.|
"The draft law is expected to be voted on during Tuesday's session," Nour al-Din al-Heyali told Aswat al-Iraq - Voices of Iraq - (VOI).
Parliament had previously held a session to vote on the provincial councils elections and the second amendment for the retirement law bills.
The Iraqi Parliament is debating these days a draft law on provincial councils after a government approval last April. The parliament, according to the Iraqi laws, has to end debating and endorsing the draft in 90 days.
The Iraqi government is counting on this law that will specify the rules of electing governors and provincial councils' members, as one of the measures that should contribute to minimizing violence, by attracting different armed groups to participate in the political process.
The bill adopts an open polling center system, and it depends on foodstuff cards to provide information regarding number of families, and families' members.
Enacting this bill will pave the road to organizing the provincial elections in Iraq scheduled for October 2008.
According to the Iraqi constitution, the provincial elections should have been held immediately after the parliamentary elections in December 2005, but were delayed for more than two years.
