Preparations finalized to set up OIC office in Baghdad
BAGHDAD, July 6 (VOI) – The Iraqi foreign ministry said on Sunday that it has finalized preparations to set up an office for the Organization of Islamic Conference in Baghdad so the OIC may undertake its role in boosting new Iraq.
The statements were made by Muhammad al-Hadj Hammoud, Iraqi Foreign Undersecretary for Legal Affairs & Multilateral Relations, while receiving Hamid al-Tani, the appointed director of the OIC in Baghdad, and his accompanying delegation.
"Hammoud held in high esteem the role played by the OIC in backing the people and government of Iraq, particularly the organizing of the Makkah conference, which was a strong slap to parties that tried to foment sectarian sentiments amongst the Iraqi people," read a ministry statement received by Aswat al-Iraq – Voices of Iraq – (VOI).
The statement also quoted Tani as underlining the OIC's "full-fledged readiness to stand by the people and government of the new Iraq, which is the organization's duty towards any active and important member like Iraq."
