Iraq, Turkey sign security and trade agreement
I just can't shake the feeling that these people know something we don't (hopefully good). This is alot of activity for the appearance of nothing going on. Thought from anyone else? -Dash
The signing comes on the first day of a two-day trip to Baghdad by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
BAGHDAD, July10 (VOI) - Turkey and Iraq on Thursday signed an agreement that would foster and streamline their working relationship in a range of areas, including the volatile issue of border security and the promise of a fruitful trade relationship.
The signing comes on the first day of a two-day trip to Baghdad by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Erdogan and Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki "signed a joint political declaration on the establishment of a high-level strategic cooperation council between the governments that will help forge a long-term strategic partnership,"according to Council of Ministers statement received by Aswat al-Iraq-Voices of Iraq(VOI).
The council is to meet once a year under the co-chairmanship of the prime ministers, three times a year at the ministerial level and once every three months by senior-level officials.
Earlier Iraq sannounced the deal is an "initiative" proposed by Iraqi President Jalal Talabani in March will help both countries reach "bilateral agreements in a speedy and timely manner."
Ministers who head energy, trade, investments, security and water resources will be the council members.
Turkey and Iraq ties had passed through a strained relationship in recent months due to issues of border security as Turkey staged several attacks against militants from the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK, into the Kurdish region of northern Iraq, where the PKK has bases. The Turkish military has launched airstrikes against militant targets, and it conducted a weeklong ground offensive this year.
Although The declaration does not mention the PKK, but it “calls for respecting each other's territories and supporting the joint efforts of Iraq and Turkey to prevent the transit of terrorists and illegal arms to and from Iraq”.
It also emphasized “the importance of strengthening cooperation between Iraq and Turkey to control their common borders and prevent all kinds of illicit trafficking."
The declaration called for” completing a military framework agreement, concluding a pact on combating terrorism and fostering trade relations in both countries' defense-related industries”.
The Two neighbouring countries “sought to focus on economics and energy along with military and border security issues”.
The two countries planned “cooperation in the areas of tourism, free trade, reconstruction, water resources, agricultural needs, investment, small business development, exchange programs in the banking sector, the promotion of Iraq's transition to free enterprise and expedition of the opening of new border gates between Turkey and Iraq."
For energy, the deal stated “establishing partnerships between the countries as well as transporting Iraqi natural resources to the world markets through most viable export routes."
The plan based on “upgrading a pipeline network to transport natural gas from Iraq to international markets via Turkey".earlier, Iraq announced it seeks expanding capacity of Kirkuk-Ceyhan oil pipeline to increase its revenues and making use of rising oil prices in global markets.
The declaration sets“the end of the year for the conclusion of strategic economic cooperation and integration agreements between Iraq and Turkey”.
Erdogan is the second leader of Iraq's six neighboring countries to visit Baghdad. Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad traveled to Iraq in March.
The Turkish prime minister's visit follows a flurry of diplomatic activity from Gulf Arab states with violence in Iraq at a four-year low. Jordan's King Abdullah is also expected to visit Baghdad soon
Turkey's trade minister has said bilateral trade between the two countries was targeted to reach $20 billion within two years, compared with more than $3.5 billion in 2007 and $940 million in 2003. Contracts won by Turkish construction firms in Iraq in 2007 topped $4 billion.

Just to mediate I believe INRI is speaking of the whole process. Get R Done just means - for the LOVE of whatever God you pray to, stop talking and start doing. I think that it is aimed at the people who have the power to "Get R Done".
Crow on the other hand is not so cryptically (sorry Crow) saying that if you are in the ISX you will do well in the coming months because of this agreement.

Well maybe you are talking about a R/V when you say Get R Done, but everything doesn't revolve around a R/V. 20 billion in trade is dam good, and if a bank or company was in a position to profit from this and people on this forum hold shares, well DAM!
