All Please Read - Update
All members,
We aren't sure what happened at the temporary other site. Some of you need to understand what a Ddos attack is. It is literally hundreds, if not thousands of computers trying to access the website all at once. The servers cannot handle the load and is rendered useless.
What are these hundreds or thousands of computers? They are a Botnet - and they are not related to any of our users or even our site. A Botnet is created over time when people load bad "things" (via freeware) to their PCs or visit bad sites (IIF is not one of them). Once their PCs are "quietly" compromised, the PCs are used to send requests to websites which forms the attack. The user of the infected PC usually does not know, because they have not scanned or updated their virus definitions. Servers on the internet are used in the formation of these Botnets. Botnets give the Ddos'r the ability to send requests wherever they like.
There are ways to combat Ddos attacks but they are costly and time consuming. We are in the process of making major changes to combat the attacks and we also have federal authorities working on the problem. We cannot comment further on this as to not compromise any investigations. Ddos'g is a felony and those who are caught do jail time in federal prison.
IIF has not been compromised by viruses or anything of the nature. We cannot vouch for the free forum sites, but we are pretty sure they keep their security up to date. We have had inquiries about trojans, etc, but in every case the member has come back to us and explained the problem was with their PC and not our site.
We would ask that members speak to us directly of any concerns and that you not continue to perpetuate the trojan theories about IIF. They are not accurate. We apologize again for the inconvenience and will continue to work until the attacks are mitigated.

As for Ddos attack, the net bot is created using trojans on pc's. There are a myriad of ways this is done

Re: All Please Read - Update
DDOS attacks come from PCs all over the internet that have been compromised (they make up the "botnet")...The attacker forces all of these PCs to send incomplete requests to the IP address that is Investorsiraq.com. The server cannot handle all of these incomplete requests, so service is impaired. These attacks are hard to fight. Servers themselves usually can do little. Even the ISPs which host these systems can do little - they can use certain methods to mitigate the attacks, but since these requests appear real (since they are coming from validm internet addresses), it is hard even for them.
The fact that the IIF folks have been able to put up temp forums is fantastic, and I for one am appreciative.

[quote="Admin"]All members,
Thank You Admin. for your hard work in trying to pull the site back together. This is a real bummer, and thanks for an alternative site for the up to date info.

For the technical layman:
Think Of a DDOS attack this way:
If one person was prank-calling your phone #, you would be able to see who it was via Caller ID.
Pretty easy huh ?
Now if 1 person had 10,000 of his friends calling you , well then it becomes a tougher nut to crack.
Add to that, the 10,000 people aren't actually his friends,
but a whole herd of PC's that have been infected and controlled remotely by a virus/trojan.
Thats what is known as a "botnet".
And just to make it REALLY tough, the people whose PC's are infected don't even KNOW they are infected/involved in such an attack.
See the problem?
As an IT ADMIN, I have seen the effects this can bring and the difficulty of countering the attack.
I am sure the Admins here and at the other sites are doing all they can,
so hold tight and give them all your support and patience.

You explained that in such a way even I understood! Thank you.
You would that companies would not charge you ( me and my PC) for virus (for lack of better words)protection for this problem. You would think they would give it away to protect themselves.

it is still suspicious that all of the dinar sites have been attacked. since many of us visit multiple sites...are we the carriers?

Most likely the answer is no..
DDOS isn't contingent upon having "site users" machines infected,
the reality of it is that the "bots" used in the attack haven't ever been to our site.
They are just flooding it with "garbage" info.
The users of the infected machines, in all likelihood, aren't even aware of their participation in the attack, let alone aware that our site even exists.
Only the stooges that coordinated this attack would know their motivations.
Maybe they weren't breast fed as infants.... who knows?

That is exactly the answer. It has nothing to do with our members computers. With the billions of PC and servers around the world, it is more likely you would be struck by lightning than to be part of this botnet.
If you want to avoid being a bot and having your computer used as a tool to harm others, keep your security software up to date. Practice safe downloading (avoid free ware as much as possible - do your research on it some first - some free ware is good, but not all). Avoid bad internet neighborhoods.
We will try to keep you all updated to our progress, but for obvious reasons we cannot share all that we are doing.
Hang in there gang!

I was able to get to the front page of the IIF today but it was missing all of the banners and such? "Spurgeon" posted on the site at 11:50 am today??? I could not log in. Perhaps the attack is losing it's strength ?? The only other posts that I could tell were from back on 6-24-08.... It still reads 1 USD=1197.000 ??
