Iraq on the verge of signing EU cooperation agreement

BAGHDAD, July 20 (KUNA) -- Head of the Committee on Foreign Relations in the Iraqi Parliament Himam Hamoudy revealed on Sunday, that his country is on the verge of signing a cooperation agreement with the European Union (EU).
This came following a visit to Baghdad, made by First Vice-Chairman of the European Parliament's new permanent ad-hoc Inter-Parliamentary Delegation for Relations with Iraq, Nickolay Mladenov MEP and his accompanying delegation.
Hamoudy in a press statement noted that bi-lateral relations and security-related issues in Iraq were discussed between the officials.
On his part, Mladenov indicated to the evident improvement of security in Iraq which has had a major impact on political harmony. He also suggested Iraq should benefit from past international experiences in equal regard.
The two officials then discussed a proposed cooperation agreement between the Iraq and the EU, followed by an invitation by the Iraqi official to visit the various northern and southern Iraqi districts.
