guided the yuan to break above the 6.86 level against the dollar
on Monday for the first time since its July 2005 revaluation, in
response to the U.S. currency's weakness on global markets. The yuan also rose slightly in offshore non-deliverable
forwards, but implied 12-month yuan appreciation against the
dollar remained close to the middle of the 6-7 percent range

BEIJING, July 2 (Reuters) - China on Wednesday tightened the administration of its capital controls in a move aimed at deterring speculative inflows of foreign currency betting that the yuan will keep rising.
In an announcement on its website, the State Administration of Foreign Exchange (SAFE) said exporters would be required from July 14 to park their export revenues in temporary verification accounts so officials can check that invoices are backed by genuine trade transactions and are not being padded....

STEPPING up the battle against "hot money" flowing into and out of China, three government departments will link internal electronic systems from July 14 to check foreign exchange receipts and export settlements, the State Administration of Foreign Exchange said yesterday.

SAFE said it would conduct the checks with the other two departments — the Ministry of Commerce and the General Administration of Customs (GAC). With the new online checks, regulators will be able to compare enterprises' forex receipts and settlements with their exported goods reported to GAC. After a trial period, the new mechanism will formally operate from August 4....
