El proyecto, que comenzará a operar el 21 de septiembre en las ricas reservas petroleas, es un emprendimiento conjunto de la compañía regional Dana Gas PJSC y su socio de los Emiratos Arabes Unidos, Crescent Petroleum.

CIUDAD DEL VATICANO (AP) _ El papa Benedicto XVI pidió al mundo que ayude a los iraquíes que huyeron de su país y pidió mayores medidas de protección para los cristianos que residen en Irak, durante una audiencia que otorgó el viernes al primer ministro Nuri al-Maliki, dijo el Vaticano.
La lucha contra el terrorismo y la necesidad de guardar la libertad religiosa fueron los temas centrales entre el Papa y al-Maliki, según el vocero vaticano Federico Lombardi.
Al-Maliki, que realiza una gira por Europa, se reunió con Benedicto en su residencia estival de Castel Gandolfo, al sur de Roma.
Un comunicado vaticano indicó que uno de los tema clave fue la asistencia a los refugiados iraquíes, aunque ambos esperan que regresen un día a su país.
Además, Benedicto mostró su preocupación por la suerte de los cristianos afectados por la violencia sectaria en Irak.
La declaración vaticana dijo que la comunidad cristiana en Irak "considera urgente disfrutar de una mayor seguridad". Según el Vaticano, al-Maliki y Benedicto consideraron necesaria la reconciliación y el diálogo entre cristianos y musulmanes para la reconstrucción del país.
El Vaticano dijo que al-Maliki invitó a Benedicto a visitar Irak, pero no indicó cuál fue la respuesta del Santo Padre.
Según despachos de prensa italianos, el embajador iraquí ante la Santa Sede dijo que en el encuentro no fue mencionado Tariq Aziz, un cristiano que ocupó varios cargos en el gabinete de Saddam Hussein.
Aziz y otros siete podrían ser condenados a muerte de ser convictos de crímenes contra la humanidad en relación con la ejecución de 42 mercaderes, acusados por el gobierno de encarecer los precios al mismo tiempo que Irak sufría sanciones internacionales.
